Msg Base: AREA 5 - ASK FATHER CIN ECHO AMDG Msg No: 274. Tue 3-31-92 6:02 (NO KILL) (MAILED) From: Father Mateo To: Bruce Mcghie Subject: Divorce and Remarriage +- | I want to know if it is a sin to remarry after a divorce. +-[BM=>All] Dear Bruce, The Scriptural teaching on divorce is found in Matthew 19:1-9 (especially v.9) and 1st Corinthians 7:10-11. St. Paul announces the exception called the Pauline Privilege in 1st Corinthians 7:15. Following the teaching of Jesus and the Apostle, the Church supports the permanence of marriage. A decree of civil divorce per se has no effect in God's sight. Where there is already a marriage, no second marriage can be valid. In individual cases there are always a host of questions to be resolved. Therefore, I do not handle marriage cases on this conference. If you have a particular marriage case in mind, the parish priest or his associates can answer your questions. There is not enough information in this response to solve an individual marriage case. Sincerely in Christ, Father Mateo
