Dear Mark,

God has created both mother and child in His own image and
likeness (Genesis 1:27). Their dignity as human persons is
equal. Neither one stands to the other as means-to-end in any
way. The commandment, "Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13)
protects the lives of both. A DIRECT ATTACK on the life of
either one in oder to preserve the life of the other is
absolutely forbidden by the natural moral law, written in our
human nature and our hearts, and by the revealed Law of God.
Those in attendance on the mother must make every effort to
preserve her life and the life of her child.

Sincerely in Christ,
Father Mateo

- Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit -
